Housebuilder Barratt has entered into a partnership with the Candy brothers’ CPC Group to develop 165 apartments on a site adjacent to the Tower of London.

CPC won permission to redevelop the Sugar Quay site, on the north bank of the River Thames, with an 11 storey block of private housing in March last year.

The Foster + Partners-designed scheme comprises 38 studio apartments, 44 one-bed apartments, 60 two-beds, 12 three-beds, and 11 penthouses.

Barratt said it would start work on-site later this year for completion in 2017.

“Barratt London has a portfolio of 29 active sites in London with five in Zone 1,” a company statement said.

“The developments at the Courthouse, Westminster, and Altitude at Aldgate have performed strongly and are 95 per cent sold with both to be completed by August.

“Sugar Quay will complement this Zone 1 portfolio over the next few years.”

The Sugar Quay site formerly housed the offices of sugar firm Tate & Lyle.
